Celadon is one of the earliest porcelain varieties in Chinese ceramic history, known for "green as the sky, bright as a mirror, thin as paper, and sounding like a chime". Its glaze color comes from the natural coloration of iron elements, from powder blue to plum green, each touch of green is as warm and implicit as the misty rain in Jiangnan. Celadon is not only an elegant vessel on the desks of Song Dynasty literati but also a concrete expression of "gentlemen compare virtue to jade" in Eastern aesthetics with its "jade-like" texture.
